Respect for Father

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) once saw two men. He asked one of them,
‘How is this man related to you’?
He replied, ‘My father.’
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) then said [advising him on how to respect one’s father],
‘Do not call him by his name, do not walk ahead of him and do not sit down before him.’

An Invitation to a special meal

Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله عنه reported that:

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had a Persian neighbour who made excellent soup. He prepared some for Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and then came to him to invite him to eat. He (Allah's Messenger) said, "and her too," referring to `Aisha رضي الله عنها.
The man said "No," so Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) then said "No."

He returned later to invite him again, so Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said "and her too." The man said "No," so Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) then said "No."

He returned another time to invite him and Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "and her too." The man said yes on this third occasion, and they then stood eagerly to go out together to the man's home.

(Muslim 2036)

Al-Nawawi رحمه الله تعالى said,

“The Prophet disliked attending a special meal without her, for this is among the beauties of married life, the rights of companionship, and the emphasized manners of gathering.”

Worrying What Others Think

No need to rush

There’s no need to rush things.
Whatever it is that you want may be taking a lot longer than you had expected. But that is fine.
Don’t worry & don’t give up. If Allah’s making you wait, there is a reason.
Be patient, Allah loves those who are patient.
Allah’s timing is perfect!

Intention to pray during the night

Sayyiduna Abud Darda رضي الله عنه narrates: Nabee صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
“Whoever goes to bed intending to wake up and pray during the night, but is overwhelmed by sleep until morning comes, what he intended will be recorded for him, and his sleep is a charity given to him by his Lord.”

The Caterpillar and the Grapes

In a speech, Maulana Hakeem Akhtar, who is a Shaykh belonging to Maulana Thanvi's chain, describes a story in the mathnawi of Maulana Rumi.

He tells us about a caterpillar who is told by the other caterpillars about the delicious fruit of the grape vine. He sets off to find these grapes and climbs onto the vine and on the way he sees lush green leaves. Seeing their dazzle, he starts thinking that these are the fabled grapes and settles on one to eat. Beguiled, he decides these are the grapes and sits there all his life, munching away on the leaf believing it to be his aim. The observers, however, know what a fool he had been in getting attracted by the green colour of the inferior leaf and forgetting about the real prize - the delicious grapes.

One look at our own lives reveals us to be like that caterpillar, getting caught up in the glitter of this world, and totally forgetting to journey on towards the fruit of Allah's pleasure.

Reform Yourself

“Our problem is that we always worry about reforming others without worrying about reforming ourselves. Look into yourself. Analyse your life from morning to evening and reform yourself.”

Halal is Clear Haram is Clear

 An-Nu'man bin Bashir said:

"I heard the Messenger of Allah say: "That which is lawful is plain and that which is unlawful is plain, and between them are matters which are not as clear. I will strike a parable for you about that: indeed Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, has established a sanctuary, and the sanctuary of Allah is that which He has forbidden. Whoever approaches the sanctuary is bound to transgress upon it, Or he said: 'Whoever grazes around the sanctuary will soon transgress upon it, and whoever indulges in matters that are not clear, he will soon transgress beyond the limits,""

Pleasure of Allah

During the time when I had written Tafseer Bayanul Qur'an, an Englishman met me very eagerly. He said: "How much money did you get for this work?" I informed him that I had obtained nothing.

Expressing surprise, he said: "Then what benefit did you get?" I replied: "Here on earth my Muslims brethren derive benefit from this work and in the Hereafter is the Pleasure of the True Lord."
