Quality of our salaah is affected by the wastage of water during wudu, wudu is an important preparation for salaah.

Shaykh Muhammad Ghazali was once asked "What is the verdict regarding one who abandons salah?"
He replied, "Invite him to the masjid when you attend."
Be the one who invites not the one who judges.

Salaah
Salaah

To the Masjid we go
Come sun, rain or snow
Five times a day
Muslims are obliged to pray
We prepare by doing ablution
All the while engaging in devotion
With our hearts inclined we do stand
To obey Almighty Allah’s command
We raise our hands and say takbeer
Salah starts and our worries disappear
Beautiful recitation of the Qur’an is heard
Our hearts captivated by these blessed words
Standing, bowing and prostrating with devotion
Allah’s name taken with each and every motion
Till finally with salam does prayer end
We hope the next prayer we are alive to attend
We make du’a for Allah to accept this deed
And back to our homes/ work we proceed.

Purification through Salaah
Hazrat Esa (alaihis salaam) once passed by a river. There he saw a beautiful and elegant looking bird lying in a puddle of mud and dirt. The bird's entire body was covered with filth. He then noticed this bird come out of the mud and then dive into the river until it was clean and beautiful again. Thereafter, the bird once again flew into the dirt and mud and became covered with filth. Once more, the bird left the mud and flew into the river again until it was clean and beautiful again. This astonishing act was repeated five times. Hazrat Esa (alaihis salaam) began to wonder as to the reason for this strange sequence of events.
Sayyiduna Jibraeel-e-Amin (alaihis salaam) descended and told him: "This bird is equal to a human from the Ummah of the Holy Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam). Each time he sins he becomes unclean, and when he performs his Salaah, then Almighty Allah purifies him just like the mud and dirt that was cleansed from the bird".
The value of Salaah is also mentioned in the Qur'an:
اتْلُ مَا أُوحِيَ إِلَيْكَ مِنَ الْكِتَابِ وَأَقِمِ الصَّلَاةَ إِنَّ الصَّلَاةَ تَنْهَى عَنِ الْفَحْشَاءِ وَالْمُنْكَرِ وَلَذِكْرُ اللَّهِ أَكْبَرُ وَاللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا تَصْنَعُونَ
"Indeed Salaah stops one from indecency and sins"
The Qur'an mentions Salaah as being an act of worship that can stop one from commiting acts of sin. However, it should be noted that this is a Salaah, a prayer, that is performed with all it's qualities; concentration, contentment, applying all the rules related to Salaah and determination is only part of the ingredients to an accepted Salaah. But in order to do that it is important that we seek the knowledge regarding Salaah.

Missed calls from Allah
Among the marvels of modern technology is also the ability to track the missed calls which were made by our friends and foes and the likes. We do not get a good night's sleep, unless we have returned the calls of those who matter. We don't let any call go unanswered as long as we know that it matters. Don't we?
But how about the calls of "hay-yaa al-as-salaah and hay-yaa al-al falah" made from the neighbourhood house of our Master, the Almighty Allah? Those calls are made five times a day and many a times they all go unanswered.
We do not respond neither do we respect these missed calls. Do they matter?
Everybody can tell, if these really matter. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but surely in the hereafter. Let us look at ourselves. Can we afford to let these calls of the muezzin be missed, day after day, after day.
The call from our Cherisher, Sustainer and the ultimate Master. Just think about it. Next time one hears this call, just ask yourself how good a night's sleep can I have by missing those calls from the house of Allah.
Think about it....the answer may come from the inner heart.

Not sure what the source of the above post is but I just thought about this again the other day...
- if we missed a call on our mobile during the few minutes we were seperated from it, we would return the miss call ASAP. Are we as punctual with our salaah if we miss the congregation or any qadaa (in need of make up) prayers outstanding?
- after maybe a few occurences of missing a call, we would consciously make an effort that this doesn't happen again. Do we make such a conscious effort not to miss a prayer despite repeatedly missing it again and again?
- some even leave their mobile phone on at night to answer any calls that might come. Yet do we leave ourselves 'switched on' to answer the daily guaranteed call of Fajr salaah? (as salaatu khairum minun-naum - Salaah is better than sleep)
Anyway I'll leave it there for you to ponder over these points and please do leave your comments if you can add to my list of thoughts from this post.

Sutra in Salah
Salams
I was listening to a talk by Shaykh Riyadh ul Haq on the Sutra in Salah and thought I would share the extract below taken from www.sunnipath.com.

In the name of Allah, Most Beneficient, Most Merciful
It is related that the Prophet (pbuh) said ‘If the one passing in front of the one praying knew what was against him, his waiting forty would be better for him than passing in front of him’ [Bukhari] Abu al-Nadr, one of the sub narrators, said ‘I don’t know whether he said forty days, or months or years’. In a version narrated by al-Bazzar the hadith reads ‘forty autumns’.
The offence being as serious as it is, the scholars defined what constitutes passing in front of somebody praying. If the one praying is in an open space or a large mosque, the scholars differed concerning what is considered passing in front, both opinions being deemed strong and follow-able. One opinion is that it is passing by his place of prostration, such that if one where to pass in front of him but beyond his immediate place of prostration there would be no sin upon one. The other opinion, which is ibn Abidins preference, is that one would be considered passing in front if one is within the field of vision of the one praying if his eyes were fixed on his place of prostration.
If the one praying is in a room or a small mosque then one will be sinful for passing in front regardless of how far in front of him one is. Ibn Abidin defines a small mosque as being forty cubits.
However, is the one passing in front always to blame?
The possible scenarios that may occur are four,
1. The one passing has an alternative to passing in front and the one praying did not pray in a place where he is in people’s way.
-In this case the sin is only on the one passing.
2. The one passing has no alternative to passing and the one praying was in a place where he would be in people’s way.
-The sin in this case is solely on the one praying.
3. The one passing has an alternative to passing in front and the one praying was in a place where he would get in people’s way.
-The sin is on both of them.
4. Neither does the one passing have an alternative nor is the one praying in people’s way. -The sin is on neither of them.
In all of these cases the one passing in front would be free from sin if the one praying were to keep a sutra in front of him. A sutra is an object of about a cubit in height that one places in front of one as one prays.
One last scenario that is relevant to mention is that if someone prays near the entrance of the mosque or without filling in the gaps in the row in front, one can walk in front of him to fill in the gaps. [Radd al-Muhtar, 1:427, Dar Li Ihya al-Turath al-‘Arabi]
Looking now to the question at hand, if the mosque is considered a large mosque then there is no problem at all as there is no harm in walking in front of somebody by a few metres in a small mosque. If it is not a large mosque then there still is no sin on the men as they are walking to fill in the rows which they can not do with out walking in front of the women.

Fajr Salaah
FAJR SALAAH
The Prophet (pbuh) said, "During your sleep, Satan ties three knots at the back of your necks. He breathes the following into them, 'The night is long so keep on sleeping.' If the person wakes & praises Allah, then one of the knots is unfastened. And if he performs ablution, the second knot is unfastened. When he prays, all of the knots are unfastened. After that he will be energetic & happy. Otherwise he would get up listless & grouchy."
Sahih Al-Bukhari

Steadfastness in Salaat
STEADFASTNESS IN SALAAT
8. Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (R.A) narrates that Rasulullah (pbuh) said: “Will there remain any impurity on a person who baths five times a day in a river flowing in front of his house?”
The people said: “No impurity will remain on him.”
Rasulullah (pbuh) said:This is the effect of the five Salaat. By means of it, Allah Ta’ala purifies the performer of all sins.” (Bukhari, Muslim)
Indeed, a great significance of Salaat is stated in this hadith.
9. Hadhrat Jaabir (R.A) narrates that Rasulullah (pbuh) said:“The distinguishing factor between kufr and Imaan is the deliberate neglect of Salaat.” (Muslim)
Deliberate neglect brings one close to kufr. One who abstains from Salaat flounders on the brink of kufr
10. Hadhrat Abdur Rahmaan Bin Amr Bin Al-A’s (R.A) narrates that Rasulullah (pbuh) said: “Salaat, on the Day of Qiyaamah, will be a light, a proof and a means of salvation for the one who guarded it. He who neglects Salaat, will have no light, no proof and no salvation (from the direction of Salaat). He (the one who neglected Salaat) will be in the company of Qaroon, Fir’oun, Haamaan and ubay Ibn Khalf on the Day of Qiyaamah.” (Ahmad, Daarami, Baihaqi, Shu’bul Imaan)
What greater punishment and disgrace can there be than to be resurrected in the company of such great unbelievers and to be flung into Jahannum along with them?
11. Hadhrat Bareedah (R.A) narrates that Rasulullah (pbuh) said: “The subject of a pledge which exists between the people and us (the Ambiyaa) is Salaat. Thus, whoever, neglects Salaat has become a kaafir (i.e. in terms of practical life, not in terms of Imaan).” (Ahmad, Tirmizi, Nisaai, Ibn Majah)
The evil of neglecting Salaat is amply illustrated by this hadith. Those who deliberately neglect Salaat are likened to the kuffaar. They appear in practical life as kuffaar. Since there is no distinguishing feature between them and the kuffaar, Islamic law will treat them on par with the kuffaar. It is clear from this hadith that neglect of Salaat is a salient feature of kufr. Although a Muslim will not be proclaimed a kaafir if he neglects the performance of Salaat, nevertheless, the Shariah views his crime with the utmost of gravity. Persistence in the neglect of Salaat is punishable by death in Islam.
